Abstract

The article discusses the possibilities of utilization a scientific analysis of the various aspects of the Free and open-source software (FOSS) that could be introduced to Croatian schools and the teacher education system in the very near future. As a scientific analysis that will be presented here will show,specific model of how FOSS could be introduced to Croatian schools and the teacher education system in the very near future. FOSS can generate significant financial savings and reduce the share of illegal commercial proprietary software. With the help of FOSS, older computers can be re-used and newer ones can work faster and better. FOSS is generally free and can be shared, in accordance with the GNU/GPL license. This way, teachers and students are given a choice of software to be used for their own learning, work and play. FOSS expands the horizons of knowledge and it makes the latest information and communication technologies available to everyone, regardless of their financial status.
